Sunset Nova (12/1) made all in the Find Us On Facebook @dundalkstadium Apprentice Handicap to gain a second career success for the father and son combination of Andy and Andrew Slattery.

The Zebedee gelding held a heathy advantage from early in the straight and was kept going by Andrew Slattery to hold the staying-on Indiana Grey (12/1) by half a length, with Muraahin (14/1) another length away in third.

The saddle slipped on the 7/2 favourite St George’s Head and he was eased to finish in rear.

The winning 4-year-old, runner-up on his previous visit to Dundalk, has had plenty of racing over the last couple of seasons, but this was his first success in handicap company to add to his maiden win at Navan last year.

Winning trainer Andy Slattery said: “It was a long time coming. It's the first day he's jumped well as he's always been missing the break.

“Things went right today. He was always going to win one but you need luck on your side someday.

“I left it up to (son) Andrew how to ride him as he knows him well. It worked out and it'll keep the owners (Men Of Forty Eight Syndicate) happy.”
