Sturlasson scorched his rivals by three lengths in the Navan Racecourse Maiden over five furlongs.

Kieran Cotter 's charge carried a mark of 89 into battle and ran right away from his rivals for jockey Declan McDonogh in the final furlong.

He prevailed at 15/2 from 22/1 runner-up Desert Power Abiding Star was another half a length back in third at 11/2.

Cotter said: "I shouldn't have run him the last day and I take the rap for that. I should sat tight a bit longer.

"His work during the week was spectacular.

"He skipped along there and he loved it. It was a real professional performance and I'm delighted.

"We'll see what happens, the lads are saying they might go for the Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap in Royal Ascot on the Friday.

"He was 90 coming here and, realistically, he probably shouldn't go up for it. I'd say he is in and around that."
