Speechmaker takes Roscommon opener

Speechmaker justified favouritism when taking the opening Budweiser Median Auction Maiden in the hands of Micky Cleere.

Cleere sent the 7/4 favourite to the front inside the final furlong and David Wachman’s charge kept on well on the run-in to score by a length.

Winning trainer Wachman said by phone: "He idled a bit in front but he did it well."

"He is progressing nicely and we'll go on from here."
