Solent Ridge pleases connections
Ger Lyons topped off his Group One-winning day with a winner at Gowran Park as prominent-racing Solent Ridge held on by a short head in the one mile handicap to score at 10/1.
Gary Phillips was in the plate claiming ten pounds off the nine stone five the gelding was due to carry.
Assistant trainer Shane Lyons said: “That’s super for Gary. The owner (Chris Dineen) is very loyal to him and that’s Gary’s third winner now so his claim will be down to seven pounds.
“Solent Ridge is a superstar at home. He is a great workhorse and leads all our good horses. Hopefully he will keep going and pay his way.
“The owner is a great owner and has got a few more horses with us now but this one is his favourite.” Cornakill just failed to get up and was returned at 12/1 in second. Barrow Island (10/1) was a length-and-a-quarter away in third while World Ruler at 16/1 grabbed fourth. Ted Dolly the 11/2 favourite finished 12th. He had been 8/1 in the morning and opened at 13/2 on course before sustained support brought his price down.
