Smartcity is certainly a handy sort
Chris Hayes rode his second winner of the campaign when the Andy Oliver-trained Smartcity came home best to win the Dundalk Stadium on Facebook Maiden.
Well-backed favourite Alayir (5/2 this morning into 6/4) looked likely to score whilst his fellow His Highness The Aga Khan-owned runner Takapour didn't get much racing room when required. However in the end Smartcity, an American-bred son of Smarty Jones, who secured a £10K bonus under the Racing Post Yearling Bonus Scheme for this success, galloped on strongly to win.
Oliver, with two wins already under his belt this season courtesy of the now sold West Coast Dream, said: "I think a lot of this fellow. He is very well bred and I expected him to do the business today.
"He is quite a straight-forward horse. He was a bit green but when he hit the front he did it well. I expected him to win at Navan on his debut but he had an unfortunate incident coming out of the stalls then.
"He settled well today and we'll step him up now. The Gallinule at the Curragh would be an option for him now."
