Tarsus caused a 66/1 shock when getting off the mark on the fourth attempt in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Dundalk.
The Andy Slattery-trained juvenile finished out of the frame on all three previous outings over this five-furlong trip including his latest two starts at this venue.
Cian Horgan ’s mount made headway on the outer over a furlong out and, after a tremendous tussle with 3/1 shot Sorrento Sky inside the final 150 yards, just came out best of a bob of the heads on the line. Surpass And Shine was four and a half lengths back in third.
Slattery said, "We thought he was a nice two-year-old but he was disappointing one day in the north. We ran him back here and Ben said to put a tongue-tie on him. He was working well.
“He's rated 63 and was in a handicap here last Wednesday but had a stone-bruise on the morning and we couldn't run him. It's just as well now.
“There is a winners race here in two weeks time so we might go for that.
“The lads have the mare, they bred him, and she's bred a winner at two now so it helps everything.”
