Sir Gerhard ran out an impressive winner of the last at Down Royal, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Pro/Am) Flat Race, rounding off a memorable day for his trainer Gordon Elliott.

The son of Jeremy was a fifth winner for Elliott, after he was earlier successful with Quilixios Ballyadam The Storyteller and Battleoverdoyen

Elliott also managed to complete a treble at Down Royal yesterday, meaning his total for the two-day fixture reached an astounding eight winners from fourteen races.

Sir Gerhard impressively won a point-to-point at Boulta in November of last year for Ellmarie Holden and subsequently changed hands for a massive 400,000 pounds.

Expected to follow-up this afternoon, the five-year-old bay was sent off the clear 2/5 favourite in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud (completing a treble on the card).

Never far off the pace under Jamie Codd, he came with his effort from the two furlong pole and soon cruised through to lead, keeping on strongly from there to score by fourteen lengths. The Banger Doyle (11s to 17/2) attempted to make all under Aine O'Connor but he ultimately had to settle for second, while Vintage Prosseco (11/2) was another three and a half lengths back in third.

Paddy Power go 6/1 about Sir Gerhard for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March.

Elliott said in the aftermath: "It's been a great couple of days with eight winners here and a winner in Wetherby too. A few got beaten and a few won and that's the way it is, but I'm very happy with the way it went.

"He (Sir Gerhard) is a nice horse. We might go to Navan now for that Listed bumper and see where we go from there."
