Breeder and owner of legendary show-jumper and sire, Cruising, Mary McCann could now be responsible for a racemare we'll hear plenty more about in Shush
This daughter of Flemensfirth was bred by McCann, at her Hartwell Stud in Kill, but she's now owned by Catherine Quirke and trained by Willie Mullins. She made an impressive start to her career in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race at Wexford.
Once the strong even money favourite was set alight by Patrick Mullins on the outer into the straight, she was soon gone beyond recall, obliging by six and a half lengths from So Lonely
"The hardest part was trying to see where I was going. She is very good, she handled that ground fine and is by Flemensfirth," said the winning rider.
"She was just a bit green, there was a lot of kickback and splashing water, and it took her maybe a furlong to learn to quicken and go, but once she did she left them for dead.
"I think she will come on a lot for it. There is a couple of mares winners races in late August to September so she might go for one of those, or she could go hurdling, she schools well.
"I just brought her to the outer to avoid the kickback. It got a bit rough coming down the hill as it can here. Sometimes it's good, especially with young horses, to get them out wide for space."
Mr E.P. O'Brien, rider of Majestic Poet trained by Philip Fenton, reported to the Clerk of Scales that the bit went through his mounts mouth.
