On his second start for Sonny Carey Sheshoon Sonny (4/1) took the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle at Thurles under Simon Torrens.
Back over flights after falling in a Clonmel chase sixteen days ago, the successful Youmzain gelding, a former Alan King inmate, eventually got the better of front-runner Betty Zane (11/2 into 100/30) by a neck.
They were thirteen lengths clear of the third, market-leader Banks Boy
"He is a lovely horse and my cousin Niall Farrell owns him. He is named after my Grandad Sonny Carey who lived in Sheshoon and Niall sent him to me for the craic and it has worked out great,” said the winning trainer.
"He was a little disappointing in England as they thought he was a decent horse but he's very straightforward. It wasn't much of a maiden but he won it well and on that rating he was entitled to go close.
"We might go for a handicap hurdle now.
"That's my second winner and I have only four in training; I do a lot of breaking and pre-training and that's my main job.
"The man who owns him (Farrell) is great fun; he lives in Bermuda and he'll enjoy this. There will be plenty of pints drank in Bermuda tonight!"
