Rossvoss takes the last for Walsh & Lee
Rossvoss at 7/1 for Ted Walsh and Billy Lee just got the better of Smithfield in the last race of the three day August meeting at Galway, the Renmore Maiden over a mile and four.
The 3yo son of Medicean, in the colours of Dermot Desmond, was making his seasonal reappearance today having not run since October of last year.
He ran four times as a 2yo with his best run coming at the Curragh in September where he finished just over nine lengths fifth to Casamento in the Group 2, Beresford Stakes.
He dropped back to maiden company on his last start where he finished just under eight lengths sixth to Banksters Bonus, who went on to win this years Ulster Derby and was placed in the Listed Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon on his last start.
The step up in trip by half a mile clearly suited him today as he made progress into third entering the straight before just getting the better of Smithfield (11/2) inside the final furlong to score by a head. Sloane Street finished a further length a quarter back in third also at 11/2 while the 2/1 favourite Harangue for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen could only manage to finish sixth.
Winning trainer Ted Walsh said afterwards: "He is a lovely big scopey horse. He was a bit weak last year and he still is. He will go hurdling now and hopefully he will make a nice hurdler."
