Robbie Downey rode a double at Dundalk tonight as he got Rose Angel home in the second divide of the mile handicap.
The 10lb claimer won the first on the card with Lady Mega (3/1jf) in the first and this 9/2 co favourite gave him a 21/1 double. It was the fourth win of his career.
Downey asked for more from her when she was third with a quarter of a mile to go and the filly answered the call as she moved into the lead one furlong out.
She had to withstand a fierce challenge from Whitethorne Scent (9/2cf) who flew down the outside and just missed out by a head. Hilary at 10/1 with Dylan Robinson aboard took third for Gerard Stack.
Peter Casey trains the three-year-old filly and his son Francis Casey reported: “It looked a question of how far. I thought she wanted further. She’s in two races next Wednesday – one over a mile and two and one over a mile. Looking at that, we might run her over a mile again.
“I thought her best trip was one mile one on soft ground. She was unlucky in Ballinrobe on her last run on the turf. She’s honest and there might be another race in her. She travelled well today and the gaps seemed to come for her.”
