Reserve Sema takes his chance
The first reserve Sensational Sema took advantage of his late inclusion by landing the Kelly Brothers Farm Handicap Hurdle for jockey Ruby Walsh and trainer Tony Martin at the odds of 9/2
The son of Witness Box from the family of Rawhide and 1993 Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle winner Shuil Ar Aghaidh, won on his sole point-to-point start at Quakerstown, Co Clare last April, before putting in five ordinary attempts on the course since.
However everything came right for him today where he was given a well timed ride by his jockey to join Mubrook at last before getting on top on the flat to win by half a length at the line.
The winning trainer stated afterwards "He is improving all the time. He suddenly came to hand. I was probably running him over too short a trip and he came of age today.
"He is owned by the Pats Bar Syndicate which is made up of five lads from Bellaghy in Co Derry."
The 7/2fav Ferris Bueller for Conor O’Dwyer & Davy Russell dropped away into the straight and was pulled up after 2 out.
