Cork Derby winner Rayounpour enjoyed another good payday when storming clear in the Mongey Communications Handicap at the Curragh.

He raced prominently and soon tracked Lethal Power in a close second at the end of the first furlong of this mile and a quarter premier handicap.

The four-year-old son of Cape Cross was still on the bridle and swept past Lethal Power two and a half furlongs down.

He was ridden to go for home a furlong and a half out and galloped strongly throughout the final furlong to score by three lengths at 5/1. Halimi was best of the rest at 6/1 with Major Reward half a length adrift in third at 22/1.

The 9/4 favourite, Winner Takes Itall had to overcome traffic problems and kept on to be a neck out of the placings in fourth.

Trainer Mick Halford said: "He's a grand horse and I thought Adam (Farragher) gave him a lovely ride, he's good value for his 7lb.

“He likes racing handy. He's not over big and just likes a bit of space. It was either here or go to Galway, and we thought here might suit him better. There wouldn't be as much hustle and bustle as there would be in Galway.

“He's obviously improving and these families take a while to mature.

“It's nice to win a good pot with him again.”
