Rainbow Lands Matron in Style
Rainbow View equipped with cheek-pieces for the first time, convincingly landed the second Group 1 of her career when capturing the Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes by two lengths under the man who has partnered her in all her career starts, Jimmy Fortune.
The Wexford-born pilot, drove George Strawbridge's former star juvenile to the front over a furlong out and though Mick Kinane launched a strong challenge on the six-year-old, Heaven Sent the successful three-year-old was never going to be pegged back, crossing the line two lengths in front.
There was a further four and a half lengths back to the only other one that counted in the betting, Again whilst Totally Devoted did the best of the outsiders to secure fourth place.
Winning trainer, John Gosden said of last year's Fillies' Mile heroine: "Her work has been good and she seemed to be in good form but it has been my experience of training mares that they only come good late in the year. Her form was nice and she has a number of options now. She could go for the E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine or the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp. She could run at the Breeders Cup too where she has a few options. It is entirely up to the owner as to whether she'll race on next year, I can see no reason why she can't."
Meanwhile Fortune commented: "The track probably suited her better (than ones she has been running on this year). She is a bit of a madam but she has been running consistently all year and she plunged twice going out of the paddock which is a good sign with her."
