At the 20th time of asking and turning out quickly after a Curragh second placing on Saturday, Miacomet finally made the breakthrough in the Matchbook Exchange Handicap at Cork.
Trainer Jack Davison sent out Madaket Mystery to finish third in race one on this programme but with the help of jockey Tom Madden the Killarkin Stud operator turned bronze to gold in the second event at the Mallow venue.
Again with those on the stand’s side dominating the places 5/1 second favourite Miacomet was held up, and the three-year-old was ridden and made progress a furlong and a half out.
Challenging a furlong out, Miacomet led in the final hundred and fifty yards, keeping on well to defeat Bahlwan by half a length.
"It is a case of a filly with lots of ability but getting it all together and me being patient with her and her being patient with me so it paid off today," reflected Davison.
"Her dam (Moon Unit) was a very good racemare and a sprinter herself and while she isn't in the same calibre as her mother, hopefully she can progress again and that will give her confidence the world of good.
"She has the gears for five (furlongs) and it would be great if we could nick another one before the season ends."
