Oxx & Curtis land another Ulster Oaks

Sat 18th Jun 2011, 17:17

Following Oratorio fillies has been a profitable strategy in recent days following the successes of Lolly For Dolly at Royal Ascot and Lovers Peace at Navan and another of the Coolmore stallion's daughters, Celendine landed the European Breeders Fund Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks in the hands of Ben Curtis.

Curtis also successful in this extended ten furlong event last year on a John Oxx runner, Shareen, got Celendine, another Currabeg representative, into top gear in the final furlong having come from off the pace, getting up close home to beat Headford Lady by a neck.

John Oxx said of Celendine, who he trains for Barbara Keller: "That's the third year in a row we've won this (Shareen 2010, Miss Keller 2009).

"Celendine is a nice filly and she'll be kept to handicaps. She might stay a mile and a half and she loves fast ground, she goes on yielding though so she's versatile.

"I thought she wasn't badly handicapped when I got her (won cross-channel last term for George Swinbank) but she didn't run well.

"Now she's running up to her rating but it remains to be seen whether she'll handle the rise in the weights for this."
