Paul Nolan and owners Manverton Limited had a nice success at Wexford on Sunday with Our Friend and they have another promising youngster on their hands in Fortune Street He won the Jim Whitty Memorial (C & G) (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race, the concluding event at Bettyville’s two day October meeting.
On his fifth start Fortune Street had the assistance of champion point-to-point jockey Barry O’Neill, and they comfortably accounted for Axiomatic by six and a half lengths.
Fortune Street led over six furlongs out, travelled well two furlongs out, and went clear from over a furlong out.
“It's the first time with the ground and the way the race was run that everything just panned out for him,” said Nolan.
“He got hampered one year in the Land Rover bumper, he finished seventh, and wasn’t beaten that far but then he had loads of trouble after that.
“He wanted soft ground and Barry thinks he could be smart.
“The last day was a three furlong sprint. The winner won snug but the race wasn't run to suit him.
“I'm hoping he'll kick on from here now and stay sound. We'll see what will happen but he could possibly go for a winners bumper.”
Mr J.P. Berry, rider of Fuzzbuster trained by J.A.Berry, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped in running.
