No strain for Fame
Champion trainer and jockey Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh teamed up to take the opening New Ross Maiden Hurdle with Strain Of Fame
The well-backed 7/4 favourite (from 9/4) jumped to the front at the penultimate flight, and found a bit extra under pressure when challenged by Park Ranger to fend off that rival by a head.
“I was so disappointed with him at Listowel last time but take that run out and he'd every chance. He's improving all the time, and we're getting to know how to ride him. He's settling much better now, and good ground is what he needs. I'd say he will be handicapping rather than going novice hurdling,” said Mullins afterwards.
