Denis Hogan's Muyam Spirit landed a gamble in the Like Kilbeggan Races On Facebook Maiden Hurdle under 7lb-claimer Shane Mulcahy.

The five-year-old gelding was all the rage in the betting ring from 7/1 down to 4/1 and got up by a head after a battle on the run-in with Amor Verdadero

He was shaken up in fourth rounding the home bend and made good headway on the outer to almost get on terms with Amor Verdadero at the final flight.

The pair fought out the spoils in the final 150 yards with Muyam Spirit edging ahead in the closing stages.

Runner-up Amor verdadero was an 11/2 chance. Our Nest Egg the 7/4 favourite disappointed in fifth of the seven runners.

“Going around I was stuck on a pocket on the rail,” Shane Mulcahy said.

“He was lugging right into the rail and turning in I thought I wasn't going to get out. I had no other choice but to bring him out around the two or three that were in front of me.

“I pulled my stick through to the right and once I got two or three belts into him on the right he stayed straight and galloped to the line. I'm very happy with him.

“I wasn't 100 per cent sure I was up but the more I thought back I was fairly sure. I gave a peep over coming to the line and was fairly confident I was in front.”
