Despite proving friendless in the ring, drifting from 7/4f out to 11/2, Ms Brightside overcame greenness to make a winning racecourse debut in the opening Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden at Fairyhouse.
The Gavin Cromwell trained juvenile filly had been well touted following her win in a Barrier Trial at Naas but the early morning support dried up before post time.
Smartly away from her outside draw under Gary Carroll, the daughter of Magna Grecia held a prominent position just off the leaders in the early stages of the race.
Ridden to challenge the more experienced High Morale over a furlong out, the eventual winner showed obvious signs of greenness before finding her feet to quicken away close home.
She is entitled to improve plenty from this initial outing and hold her own in better company.
“She was plenty green, I couldn't believe it because she was professional enough in the barrier trial and we've had them away plenty,” said Cromwell.
“She did it well. She was a little bit flat footed when they quickened, it just took him a little bit to get her organised but she won well.
“We'll have a look at the calendar now and see, she could potentially be for sale but if not she could go for a bit of black-type somewhere.”
