Fancied horses are doing well at Thurles today and another favourite went in when The Cookie Jar (11/4 into 9/4) took the Gift Horse Gallery Horse & Jockey Hotel Mares Maiden Hurdle under Jody McGarvey.
Outsider Grandma Dotty still had a chance of sorts chasing the leaders when falling at the second last. Meanwhile The Cookie Jar took over at the last before going on to oblige by three lengths from Dantes Firth
Winning trainer Colm Murphy said: "She was very well treated today taking into account Jody's allowance. She got black-type the last day and now she's a winner with black type.
"She's improving with every run but we won't aim too high with her next. She'll run in a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown."
P.D. Kennedy, rider of Miss Island trained by Michael Winters, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped very big at the first, still being raw and inexperienced, and was on her head down the back straight, and stayed on well late on once the penny dropped with her.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Lorbrisus at the request of trainer, John J.R.Foley, and reported the animal to have burst a blood vessel. .
Owing to the low elevation of the sun, and in the interests of safety, the Stewards granted permission for the third last hurdle to be omitted from this race and the sixth race.
