A well-backed joint favourite on his racecourse debut when having to settle for eighth place after suffering a little interference, If Not For You was a winner likely welcomed by the layers when on outing number two he landed the concluding seamusweldon.com INH Flat Race at Killarney.
Paul Power did the steering on the Peter O'Dwyer-owned, Eoin Doyle-trained son of Celtic Swing and the 8/1 chance saw it out best to defeat the newcomer, Court Frontier (his rider Ciaran Fennessy got a 1 day for weighing in over-weight), by a neck.
Meanwhile the gambled-on Minella Tweet had to settle for fourth place whilst the favourite Ivy Gate finished fifth and his rider Andrew Latta reported that his mount was hanging badly in the straight.
Power said: "He has loads of gears – he's a gorgeous horse. I won a point-to-point on him (at Tattersalls Farm in May) and he jumps great. That's my second winner on the track for Eoin Doyle (the other coming here on Palm Sur in July)."
The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr.P.L.Malone, that Mr.C.W.Fennessy, rider of Court Frontier, weighed in 2.3.lbs. overweight.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 231 and having considered his record, suspended him for one raceday. (TW & EM)
