As it was with the juvenile fillies thirty five minutes earlier the picture changed late in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden, as another newcomer, Military Style got there ‘at the death’ to win race two at Naas.
Favourite and second placer Eastern Voice tried to put the experience of his debut fourth placing to good use under Kevin Manning.
However after leading a furlong and a half out and striking for home, he was caught near the line and beaten a neck by the obviously very promising Ballydoyle inmate Military Style.
Seamie Heffernan did the steering and he said: “He’s a strong horse that has shown a bit and I rode him with confidence. I always knew I was going to get there although the Bolger horse kept finding.
“There is a pretty strong headwind and some horses put their head down and gallop and take it on — some horses don’t race into it.
“Strictly on pedigree he’d want further but War Front puts a huge amount of speed into them.
“I’d much prefer a horse to race off the bridle and keep finding than a horse that travels and doesn’t finish. Hopefully there is plenty of improvement. He’s clean winded and did it nicely.”
