Father and son David and Derek McGrath sprang a surprise with 16-1 shot October Revolution who took the Michael Holland Tyres Handicap Steeplechase in Roscommon under the latter.
October Revolution had headed Daisy Chicks at the second last when that rival crashed out of contention.
The 11-year-old gelding was left clear to come home by eight lengths from 10/1 chance Hilltop Supreme Clorinka was another length and a half away in third at 25/1.
October Revolution was returning from a break since finishing seventh in a handicap chase at Wexford in September.
Jockey Derek McGrath said: “Things didn’t go his way last year (after winning at Clonmel) but he’s back enjoying himself.
“He came down to 95 just to slot in there which suited him well.
“That only my second winner on the track and he’s given me the two. I’ve had a few point-to-point winners.
“That’s my first ride in nine months and it’s a nice way to come back. My weight was catching me for a while and there was a lack of rides.”
The Stewards interviewed Mr D.T. McGrath, rider of October Revolution, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr D.T. McGrath was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr D.T. McGrath for one race day.
