Maundy in the Money for Marnane
Maundy Money powered home through the mud in the seven furlong handicap at Tipperary to record his seventh career success.
Sam James produced his mount to challenge on the rail at the furlong marker.
The eight-year-old, who has been such a good servant for David Marnane, kept on best inside the final furlong to post a length-and-a-half victory over Independent Girl
The race was marred by the fall of Libano and Pat Shanahan, who clipped heels after Toufan Express and Ted Dolly came in on top of him a furlong-and-a-half out.
Thankfully both horse and jockey were quickly back on their feet.
"He's a great old campaigner," said Marnane afterwards.
"It was a good pot today and he handled that ground well. We'll try and find something similar for him.
"He'll probably go on to Dundalk later in the year. He just loves being in training and is a horse that would not take well to retirement.
The trainer also had praise for the winning pilot:- "Sam's a very good 5lb claimer."
