After winning at Dundalk on Sunday, the Donal Kinsella trained Maudlin Magdalen quickly followed up at Bellewstown this evening, taking division two of the Play The Tote Jackpot Handicap.

Ridden by Ben Curtis, the three-year-old daughter of Dylan Thomas was given nine pound by the handicapper for her win on Sunday, but carried just the mandatory five pound winners penalty this evening.

Well-supported on-course, she opened at 7/2 before going off the 9/4 favourite.

Trained nearby in Dunleer, Co Louth, the bay filly broken away smartly, making virtually all, asserting and staying on well inside the final furlong to score by two and a quarter lengths. Antiquus finished second at 7/2 under Billy Lee for Joanna Morgan, while Jeangeorges was four and three parts of a length back in third under Danny Grant for Pat Flynn.

Donal Kinsella said afterwards: “I thought it might be a bit early for her but I took a chance with just the five pound penalty.

"She might go to Killarney next week but we don’t want to be too greedy.

"She did that very well. She’s fussy and tricky but she is brave, so we decided to let her do it from the front. Ben said she might still have a little left in the tank."
