Macgiloney showed plenty of ability over fences when taking the concluding beginners' chase on Roscommon's card.

The seven-year-old gelding caught the eye travelling strongly for Sean Flanagan behind the leaders on the run to the second last.

He jumped into second at that obstacle and soon took aim at the leader Doctor Duffy

He grabbed a narrow lead at the last and stayed on strongly to close out this extended three mile race by two and a half lengths at 9/2.

Runner-up Doctor Duffy was hammered down to 8/15 favourite from 8/11. He came in 12 lengths ahead of All's Quiet (33/1).

“He was always going to be a chaser. He had a nice run in Thurles,” said trainer Denis Hogan.

“He's a horse we had earmarked for Galway and he might go for a novice chase there.

“Whatever he did over hurdles was a bonus, and he won three times, so you'd imagine he'll have a big career novice chasing.

“He loves three miles plus and good ground. He's a very nice jumper and Sean gave him a lovely introduction.

“You couldn't be happier and he's exciting to have.”

Macgiloney had finished fourth in a beginners' chase at Thurles in March.
