Ger Lyons capped a great weekend with his juveniles at the Curragh when Treasuring landed the Qatar Racing And Equestrian Club Curragh Stakes.
Lyons and stable jockey Colin Keane were completing a double on the afternoon having taken the opening maiden with Gobi Desert while the same combination were on the mark with another newcomer yesterday when Would You Believe made a successful debut.
The field for this Group 3 race was reduced to six runners after Declarationofpeace and True Blue Moon were both taken out due to the rain-softened ground, and Keane had the daughter of Havana Gold up with the pace throughout.
The 3/1 chance kept on well inside the final furlong to hold the challenge of 9/4 favourite Goodthingstaketime by half a length, with Sirici the same distance further back in third.
Lyons said, “She has a great temperament. If you are going to have a negative it’s that she resents the stick. But she’s always done that and she’s trying her hardest for you anyway.
“She’s a revelation and has done nothing but improve from her first run to here. She’s out and out game, and we’ve got winning black type for her which is a great bonus.
“I can only imagine that she will keep developing into the winter and be a nice three-year-old. It’s great for the owners as they own the sire and for the team in general.”
