Rough Diamond was backed down to 5/1 for the claimer in Dundalk and was driven home by Ben Coen over the seven-furlong trip.

The jockey held him up and the pair made headway a quarter of a mile from home. They disputed a furlong down and rolled home best in the closing stages to score by a length and a-half. Bucaneer's Spirit took the runner-up berth at 50/1 and was a length and a quarter in front of Chestnutter (15/2).

Eddie Lynam said: "He was a horse that was rated in the 90s and I couldn't believe this morning he was 10 or 12/1. He has never run against horses like that before.

"If they (bookmakers) are going to be silly, you have to put manners on them!

"He will probably be claimed now and he will be a fun horse for somebody.

"Trevor (Dalzell, owner) is a great supporter and nice to get him another winner. He's having a nice drink on holidays now and is a few quid better off!"

Rough Diamond was claimed for 12,000Euro by Paul L Drinkwater to be trained by Tristan Davidson in Britain, while Chestnutter (6K) was claimed by John McConnell and Bucaneer's Spirit (5K) was claimed by Jack Davison.
