Wayne Lordan doubled his tally in the finale at Dundalk, the Fairways Hotel Ladies Day Sunday 12th July Handicap, scoring aboard the Danny O’Sullivan-trained Lequinto
O’Sullivan hasn’t had many runners since his last track winner, Long Journey Home, in October 2015, and he also bred and owns Lequinto.
The three-year-old served notice that his turn wouldn’t be long delayed when third here on February 14th.
Following on from Reverberation Aerclub, Tony The Gent Juliet Rose and Fit For Function earlier, Lequinto (5/2) became another winning market-leader on this programme, by two lengths from Lady Maura
Lequinto tracked the leader, he was second halfway, and was ridden to lead over a furlong out. From there he kept on well to confirm the win.
“He's a grand horse, Danny always liked him but he said the penny didn't drop with him in a few races,” said Lordan, a winner earlier on the Henry de Bromhead-trained Aerclub.
“He ran well for me here the last day from a wide draw. He had a very good draw today, hit the gates, I was able to travel second and he picked up.
“He tries, he probably is what he is but he's a fun horse. It's nice for Danny as they are in horses plenty of years and it's nice for them to have a winner.
“He's a very straight-forward sort and he'll win when his turn comes.”
R.P. Cleary, rider of Lady Alcazar trained by Thomas Cleary, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount got hampered leaving stalls.
