Leon Og Springs a Shock
With the favourite, Layde Back (six to four on into two to one on) running no sort of race in the Kinnegad Maiden Hurdle, the door was left open for something else to prevail and Leon Og was the one to seize the opportunity, beating Carheenlea by six lengths.
Dessie Hughes said of his Roger Loughran-ridden winner: "That's a surprise. He is a very backward horse and we felt he wanted good ground. We were very pleased with him the last day and he came on a lot for that. He is a chaser and to win a hurdle with him is a bonus. I'd suppose he will go for a winners of one somewhere now."
Leon Og was certainly a result for the books, being returned a 16/1 chance, the runner-up was fourteens and the third home, Airgead Sios was a 40/1 shot. (EM)
