Lady Anner (4/5) justified odds on favouritism in the Irish EBF Supporting Irish Champions Weekend Fillies Maiden at Roscommon, but only just.
She was a deserving victor after excellent efforts behind classy sorts such as Epona Plays and So Wonderful and she has plenty to live up to with this name, owned and bred by Clonmel outfit, Newtown Anner Stud Farm Ltd.
Here under Shane Foley for Jessica Harrington the Fastnet Rock filly raced prominently early, soon chasing the leader.
Second at the halfway stage, the three-year-old led narrowly two furlongs out.
Ridden and pressed a furlong and a half out, the victor was strongly pressed and kept on well inside the final furlong, all out at the finish to beat Ediyva by a head.
“She deserved that in fairness to her as she had a couple of nice runs. She made hard work of it but that’s just her. She only does what she has to,” said Foley.
The Stewards interviewed S. Foley, rider of Lady Anner, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that S. Foley was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and having considered his record, they suspended him for 2 racedays.
