Kojin made the breakthrough in the Dan Cowman Memorial Maiden, justifying some late market support in the colours of the G & B Partnership.

Previously trained by Jessica Harrington and now in the care of Peter Fahey, the four-year-old failed to make an impact in three starts over flights during the winter.

Third and fourth since returning to the level this summer, the Siyouni gelding was sent off the 3/1 favourite, from early shows of 5/1.

Settled behind the leader in second, the chestnut victor got to the front just inside the final two furlongs, keeping on well under pressure from there, going on to score by a length. The Very Man (11/1) kept on well from rear to take second under Scott McCullagh for Jessica Harrington, while Six Feet Apart (5/1) was another three-parts-of-a-length back in third.

"He is a grand horse. He had two good runs in competitive handicaps since he came back this season and experience tells around here," Fahey said.

"Sam gave him a great ride, he is riding great and I think he is a rider that is definitely going to go places under either codes. He has been very lucky for me.

"Sam thought he was a different horse today on that nicer ground and he got the trip really well. We are going to have good fun with him.

"I'd like to see him going up a few pound in the handicap and maybe getting into some of those premier handicaps over a mile and a quarter to a mile and a half. I think he will stay improving away.

"When he came out of Galway so well I said to the lads I'd put him a couple of maidens at these smaller tracks and it's great that has worked out."
