After four placed efforts from five previous starts, the 87-rated Kailash (1/2 favourite) got off the mark in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden (Div II).

A little sluggish from the gates, Dermot Weld’s first-time blinkered colt soon tracked the leader Star Official (5/1) before heading that one early in the straight.

Star Official made the market leader work for it but inside the final furlong Colin Keane’s mount asserted to score by a length and three quarters. Faron (6/1) was third and held that position following a stewards’ enquiry after giving fourth home Delta Romeo a slight bump close home.

Kris Weld, assistant to his father Dermot, said "He is a grand horse, always runs an honest race and might get a little further in time and more ease in the ground would be a help.

"He has toughed it out well, is a grand genuine sort and the blinkers just sharpened him up. He deserved that today and I'd like to see a drop of rain before he runs again."

On a couple of the stable’s star mares, Kris Weld continued: "Tarnawa is very well. There isn't really a plan with her yet, and boring and all as it sounds, we'll be guided by her.

"She is still on her break but will be back shortly. The reason she is being kept in training is to have a go at the Arc and we'll see if she's up to it or not - please God she is."

"We hoped to run Search For A Song in the Vintage Crop at Navan on Sunday and while she has never been better in her life, with the dry weather and ground we couldn't take the chance running her and will wait for another few weeks and see."
