Mindy (16/1), equipped with a first time hood and having her initial outing for the Willie McCreery yard, took the Campile Apprentice Handicap by the scruff of the neck from about a furlong out to triumph under very much in-form Leigh Roche.
Another with new head-gear on, Positive Vibes in eye-shields, couldn't live with Mindy's (had been tried in blinkers in the past) late burst and a length and three parts separated them at the finish.
Favourite Lindenhurst (15/8) came home in third, two and a half lengths adrift.
A 6,800 Euro buy at Goffs in February, from Rick Barns, out of the Patrick Prendergast yard, Mindy now carries the famous Burns colours of Madeline and the Zamindar filly is in-foal to Born To Sea (second in the 2012 Irish Derby) and of course a sibling to Galileo and Sea The Stars.
Born To Sea stands with the Burns family at Rathasker Stud in Naas and the winning owner was understandably delighted.
Willie McCreery trains Mindy now and he disclosed: "We'll keep stepping her up. That was the first time she went over a trip and Leigh gave her a great ride around the inside. He had a bit of confidence in the filly.
"She had a few frights in the stalls but we have her sussed that way. She is a grand honest filly and she loves a trip. We have her around six weeks and that was obviously her first run for us." (DM & EM)
