Just a neck separated them at the finish (on the camera angle it appeared less) in division one of the Irish Farmers Journal Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan. Favourite Imperial Sachin’s (11/8) got there just in time to nab Voice Of Hope (14/1).
It wasn’t always straight-forward for successful pilot Bryan Cooper, as Imperial Sachin’s was short of room at the second where he made a mistake.
However in similar ownership to 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, Imperial Commander, Imperial Sachin’s stayed in the hunt to the bitter end, as the front pair left another that was prominent in the market, Cullaghs Star four and a quarter lengths back in third.
Imperial Sachin’s was having his first run since January and hailing from a decent family the five-year-old could be progressive.
“It was a good opportunity and it was nice to see him get off the mark. He should progress during the summer and they (Imperial Racing Syndicate) should have some fun with him,” said winning trainer Denise Foster.
“He had to be a man about it at the finish and will have learned a lot. Bryan gave him a great ride.”
The Stewards interviewed Mr C.M. Quirke, rider of Voice Of Hope, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he was in breach of Regulation 10 and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr. C.M Quirke was in breach of Regulation 10.3(i)(time to respond) and having considered his record they cautioned him on this occasion.
C.P. McNamara, rider of Simpletwistoffaith trained by E. McNamara, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran into the back of a horse that was prominent early and fading quickly. The Stewards subsequently reviewed this incident and were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
