Halarath provided Letterkenny handler Charlie Moore with his first winner in over two years when overcoming trouble in running to take division one of the [email protected] Handicap.
The five-year-old mare, who was far from ignored in the market (33/1 into 16/1), appeared an unlikely winner when trapped on the far rail over a furlong out.
However Gary Carroll switched her out and around three horses, and the daughter of Alhaarth quickened up really well to get up close home.
She had half a length to spare over Pennys Angel at the line, with top-weight Gun Shoot close up in third.
Moore said, “The owner (PJ O’Brien) saved her from the factory and bought her for €600. She doesn’t go on hard ground but likes that surface, and Gary thinks she’ll win again.”
Gary Carroll said, “She enjoyed the trip and they went hard. She did well to win from where she was. I was stopped on the rail and had to come right around.”
