Give Me A Break looked the proverbial ‘handicap good-thing’ following a creditable third in a valuable event at Galway last Saturday, and she proved the point by taking the featured Guinness Sligo Handicap Hurdle in convincing fashion.
The Michael Hourigan-trained mare has been raised 5lb in future handicaps following that promising effort at Ballybrit but the assessor is sure to have another say after this ten-length romp.
Adrian Heskin’s mount headed the trail-blazing Dazzling Susie at the penultimate flight, and the 2/1 favourite stayed on strongly in the straight for an easy win. Oscar Buzz was a further 12 lengths adrift in third.
Hourigan said, “She was a bit unlucky at Galway where she didn’t come down the hill that well and got boxed in a bit.”
Heskin commented, “She took a long time to come to hand but she seems to be going in the right direction and will jump a fence in time. She loves an ease in the ground and is one that can keep going through the winter.”
