Geraghty doubles up aboard Capellanus
Barry Geraghty completed a quick double as he got Capellanus up near the line to beat Inspector Closeau by a neck in the Sanserv Handicap Hurdle for trainer Edward O'Grady.
The French import won his maiden hurdle at Gowran in February of 2010 on his third attempt over hurdles. He since mixed it between the flat and jumps, failing to score on his next seven starts.
However he did run some good races in defeat including finishing just over twelve lengths behind Final Approach in the MCR Hurdle at Leopardstown in January.
Sent off at 9/2 today the son of Montjeu made his move as he closed into second after two out. He then kept on well on the run-in to catch the leader Inspector Closeau (11/2) near the line. Priors Gold finished two and a half lengths back in third for Gordon Elliott and Paul Carberry while the 3/1 favourite Louisville Lip was a further length behind in fourth.
Winning trainer Edward O'Grady said afterwards: "I was disappointed with him in the Cesarewitch (finished twelfth behind winner Minsk) but delighted with the way he battled so well today.
"We have no real plan but we will find another handicap for him now."
