Not content with the Hennessy Gold Cup and two other Grade 1 winners on the day, Champion Trainer Willie Mullins also plundered a 'lowly' equal opportunities handicap on the day at Leopardstown, claiming his four-timer with Tennis Cap in the paddypower.com iPhone Fast Bet Handicap Hurdle.
Tennis Cap, under Paul Townend (himself recording a treble on the day following Grade 1 wins with Champagne Fever and Boston Bob came out best in the 24 runner race marking Mullins' 146th winner of the season..thus far!
Regarding Tennis Cap's recent vast improvement in form from last season, Mullins later joked “has someone got a formbook so I can find out what idiot was training him last year!
“He confounded us last year – he did some lovely work at home but he never produced it on the racecourse. I'd half a mind to go chasing with him but I said I'd stay hurdling because if he was half the horse I thought he was, he'd win handicaps.
“He has probably booked his ticket for Cheltenham now for the either the County or Coral Hurdle but the County may be more his job.”
