First double for Gray as he gets Prince home

Shane Gray recorded his first double as he got Prince Chaparral got up to win the Harney’s Of Dunhill Handicap (earlier won on Stepping Down , for trainer Pat Flynn.

The six-year-old son of High Chaparral opened at 5/1 on-course and was well-supported, going off the 10/3 second favourite. Bobskier went off the 11/4 favourite under Colin Keane for Ger O’Leary and he was battling for the lead close home with Ancient Sands however the winner stayed on best in the closing stages, sweeping to the front on the outside to score by half a length.

The ‘jolly’ took third, while Anicent Sands, for Chris Geoghegan and Joanna Morgan, was a head back in third at 10/1.

The successful bay gelding was recording his fourth career success this evening, his first since winning over the course and distance back in August of 2010.

Pat Flynn said afterwards: "He is owned by a very good owner, Christopher Maye. He also bred him along with Storm Away and Bahrain Storm.

"It is great to have a winner and he will go for a maiden hurdle now back here on Sunday.

"He is a lazy old horse and he had been threating to win one of these for a while."
