The Denis Hogan trained and partnered The Granson gained an overdue first win in the Limerick On Twitter (C & G) Maiden Hurdle at Limerick today and in the process, and fortunately, capitalised on the final flight fall of favourite Crezic

Trainer/jockey Hogan was hard at work on leader The Granson as 8/11 favourite Crezic went in pursuit approaching the final flight. There was little between the pair jumping that final obstacle but Crezic crashed out leaving The Granson to score a comfortable win over Buck A Trend with 100/1 shot Simon's Castle coming through for third place.

The Granson had finished in the prizemoney on five of his previous six runs, including twice finishing second, and after today's success Hogan stated “I was very afraid of Gordon's horse (Crezic) and on paper you'd say he shouldn't beat him but you can't run away from one either.

“I was hanging nicely down the home straight and it was a good job he had the stands' rail because I couldn't steer him and couldn't get a good belt into him.

“I don't know how well Jack (Kennedy, Crezic) was going but my lad keeps going. In his bumpers all he was doing was galloping and he had some good form.

“I'm delighted for his owner Padraig Coffey (from Portarlington who runs a bar in Lanzarote) as this horse had had stop-starts and gaps between his runs with small issues. It's grand to repay him and hopefully he can go on to something better.”
