Chosen Thyme (22s into 16s) got off the mark at the first time of asking in the Racing Again June 6th (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Kilbeggan for Philip Fenton and Eoin O’Brien.
Odds-on favourite Sonny Dont Go Away was giving his supporters cause for concern from an early stage but he warmed into it as the two miler went on. So much so that the Mullins runner got to the front two furlongs out.
However O’Brien gave Chosen Thyme a patient steer from off the pace and he went into a mid-field slot travelling well three furlongs out.
Getting a great run up the inner in the straight the successful Well Chosen gelding eventually got the better of Sonny Dont Go Away by three parts of a length.
“He’s owned by Lily Lawlor who was the part-owner of Dunguib. She’s stuck with us a long time and has had plenty of poor horses since so I’m delighted,” said Fenton.
“We were hoping he’d run well and might run into a place at best.
“If we didn’t have the best horse we definitely had the best jockey - a great ride.
“He’s a late foal so I’d say we will rough him off now for the summer. He was going to go point-to-pointing at some stage and then that was ruled out.
“He’s a fine horse and hopefully he’ll progress.”
