Fennor Cross followed-up on his win at Gowran last month as he again got the better of Dunum in the Moyne Handicap.

Supported from 13/2 to 9/2, the John McConnell trained victor was pushed along towards rear in the early stages, soon settling in mid-division under Donagh O'Connor.

He took closer order on the approach to the straight and came with his challenge on the outer from the two furlong pole. Ridden in second with a furlong left to race, he stayed on best to lead inside the final 50 yards, going on to prevail by three-parts of a length.

Dunum, who also finished second to Fennor Cross at Gowran, was returned the 7/2 favourite under Robbie Colgan for Patrick Turley, while reserve Dromod Lad (22s to 16s) was another length-and-three-parts back in third.

McConnell said in the aftermath: "He's a very big horse and has taken a lot of time. He's still not furnished so we won't do much more with him this year.

"There might be one more run left but if he didn't run I wouldn't be worried as he should be a better horse next year.

"He's a big baby and the owners (the Positivity Syndicate) have been very patient so it's paid off for them now. He's green and still has a bit to learn."
