Fathom Two opened his account under Rules when getting on top on the run-in to land the opening Toals Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding had been placed here three times (2 bumpers/maiden hurdle) this summer and finally gained reward for his consistency at odds of 7/2.
The point-to-point winner challenged the front-running Gone For Tea at the final flight and after striking the front about 150 yards out, edged right under Keith Donoghue and caused some interference to the runner-up in the closing stages.
The winning margin was a length and three quarters and the result was confirmed following a stewards enquiry.
Cromwell said, "Hopefully we will come out on the right side of the enquiry, Keith didn't think there was much (in it) even though there is an enquiry.
"Once they got out of the dip, yes I was (confident he would get up the hill).
"He's versatile enough (with ground) - I don't think he will go on bottomless winter ground, but sure it is nice to get his head in front."
On numbers in his stable, he added: "We are probably up a little bit and it is a busy time of the year for us as we are doubled up with the Flat horses and the winter horses in as well.
"I'd say the split is now 60/40 jumps. It is great to be busy all year round."
