Former amateur jockey Peter Fahey is making noteworthy headway in just his third season as a trainer and recorded his 21st winner at Punchestown today when his Railway Tommy (10/1) overturned 4/6 favourite Rough Justice in the concluding ITM Promoting Irish Bloodstock (Pro/Am) Bumper.
Ridden by Shane Butler, the son of Artan responded well to pressure in the straight, shaking off the challenge of the odds-on 'jolly' (which attempted to run off an early bend away from the stands) inside the final furlong.
Afterwards Fahey stated “it's brilliant for the syndicate who are all from Dunlavin and this is their local track and he's bred by Jimmy Whittle who is also part of the syndicate.
“We didn't really expect to win today but we wanted to run here as it was the syndicate's local track and the plan was to also run him at the Festival. He'll probably go there for a winners' race now and is definitely a nice horse.”
