Emily Gray benefited from the final flight fall of leader Piece D'Or when winning the mcmahons.ie Building Provider & Home Improvements Mares Maiden Hurdle at Limerick today for trainer Timmy Hyde and jockey David Casey.
Piece D'Or went clear of the field entering the home straight and while she held a two lengths advantage at the last, the 'pack' were closing. Emily Gray benefited from the fall and stayed on to defeat Sensing by two lengths.
Hyde was absent but Casey later stated “I don't know whether or not we'd have caught the winner as it's a quick run-in. However I did think the other one (Piece D'Or) was stopping and we'll take what we get!”
He added “she ran shocking at Downpatrick the last day but Timmy (Hyde) said she'd run much better today and we were fortunate in a number of ways; the early favourite (Royal Moll) was taken out and then the third favourite (Catimini) was kicked at the start and had to be withdrawn. We certainly won't be giving it back though!”
Morning favourite Royal Moll half an hour before the race due to the going.
