Gordon Elliott was pretty much assured of victory after the third-last in the Tayto Group Maiden Hurdle as the 4/9 favourite Mighty Potter loomed up to challenge front-running stablemate The Greek with the rest of the runners making no impression in behind.

The former was on terms and travelling best when left clear at the second-last flight as The Greek crashed out giving Davy Russell (subsequently stood down for the day) a nasty fall.

Mighty Potter was left to cruise home under Jack Kennedy and passed the post 29 lengths clear of 80/1 chance Doyen Rose

The Punchestown bumper winner was making it two from two and carries the same colours as Elliott’s first-race winner Fil Dor (who was ridden by Russell). He was put in at 33/1 (first show) by Paddy Power for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.

The winning trainer said: "We think he is a nice horse, we like him a lot. He's still very babyish.

"I'd say that's the way he will be going (for a graded race). We'll try and find a winners' race now, but the problem is you have to go for a graded race now.

"He has always shown us plenty."
