Second reserve Bendanella got a run in the two and a quarter mile maiden hurdle in Wexford and duly made no mistake as he scored for Henry de Bromhead.

Andrew Lynch was on board and always had the five-year-old son of Heron Island prominent. He jumped well throughout and coming to the last had one rival left to burn off – Brian Hamilton’s Der Kaiser (14/1).

Mikey Fogarty and Der Kaiser couldn’t quite reel in the winner after the last as Bendanella found plenty and scored by three parts of a length. Der Kaiser beat Inishturk Lad (4/1 from 7s this morning) the same distance into third.

"I was hopeful he would run well. He had good bumper form, but he was a bit disappointing at Tramore where I thought he might win. He schooled really well so I said we'd just go jumping,” Henry de Bromhead said.

“He won his point-to-point at Ballinaboola after Christmas where he beat a horse of ours Tisamystery. Andrew said his jumping was electric. Whatever he does over hurdles he will be much better over fences. I might drop him back to two miles as I thought he was just fizzling out a bit there. He is an exciting horse."

The 5/1 winner paid almost 10.5/1 on the Tote. Some Article went off the 15/8 favourite, but the Goffs Land Rover Bumper winner of 2012 was hard at work coming to the second last and had to settle for fourth, beaten eight lengths.
