Jake Peter led home a 1-2 for trainer Pat Flynn when justifying 5/2 favouritism in the www.thurlesraces.ie Maiden Hurdle.
The Intikhab gelding, available at 11/2 this morning, came here in good form having scored on the Flat at Tramore and Cork and was also runner-up on his latest two outings.
Jody McGarvey ’s mount cruised to the front before the last and, despite jumping right, stayed on well for a very comfortable length and a half verdict.
Stablemate Yarraman made most of the running and kept on to just deny Convara for the runner-up spot. Bythesametoken who showed some promise at Naas on Saturday, was heavily-backed (25/1 in morning price lists and sent off just 9/2) making a quick reappearance but could never get in a blow keeping on late into mid-division.
Flynn said, "He’s rated 100 so I said if I went for the right type of maiden it might be better than going for a handicap.
"We'll definitely go for a handicap now and while he is only 430kgs, he is a hardy boy and there is great stuff in him.
"We might try him once in winter ground and then might give him a break but I still thing I'd like to go to Dundalk with him.
"I trained his mother (nine-time winner Kate Emily) and it's great for his owner/breeder Frank McNulty."
